Weather in Whitsundays

Climate

  • The Whitsunday Islands are located in tropical Queensland.  We have hot summers, warm winters and bright spring and autumn days. Average daily temperatures range from around : 22 – 23 degrees Celsius in the winter months of June, July and August and average 30 degrees Celsius in summer months.
  • Water temperatures remain a welcoming 25 degrees Celsius most of the year round
  • tropical wet season occurs during January to March when days can be steamy and the summer heat is often broken by tropical showers

Summary :

June- August months: It is winter time in Queensland. It is not hot and nights are cool. Wind is usually little stronger than in summer months but on average below 15 knots, which is perfect for sailing. Sea is cooler. Whales are traveling and you can spot them often.

November- January: This is Queensland summer time. It is hot and dry. Sea is very warm and you can snorkel and dive for hours without being cold. Wind usually is not strong and you can enjoy relaxed holiday time.

Most of the year our average wind will not go above 11 knots. Wind between 5-15 knots are the best for sailing.  It allow us to go to most of destinations without risking discomfort of swell.

The strongest winds we experience are at the beginning of the year, during February and March.

With the majority of winds coming from the East and South East, we have unlimited options to explore Whitsundays. Wind direction is usually easily predictable and we can plan our trips well ahead of departure.
